This policy explains what the HAAAA app collects, why, where it is kept, who can see it, and how to delete it. HAAAA is made by Feel Technologies Limited, a New Zealand company (“we”, “us”). This policy covers the HAAAA app for Android and the haaaa.app website.

The short version: we collect only what the app needs to work. We don’t use analytics, crash reporting or advertising. We don’t sell your data or share it for marketing. The app takes no payments. You can delete your account and everything in it yourself, at any time, from inside the app.

Who we are

Feel Technologies Limited, New Zealand

What we collect

Your account. Your name, email address and a password. We use Firebase Authentication to sign you in; your password is handled by Firebase and we never see it.

Your profile photo, if you choose to add one. You pick it from your photos; the app shrinks it before uploading.

Your journal. When you check in, we store the date, the mood you chose, the feeling words you picked, any note you write, the events you tag, and any goals and gratitude lines you add. We also store your “I Am” statements and your weekly life checks (a rating for each area of life).

Your meditation history. Each session you play: which narrator, music, scene and length, when it started and ended, how long you meditated, and your streak. We record your time zone (for example “Pacific/Auckland”) so your streak counts days correctly.

Your preferences, such as your languages, default session length and scene, your reminder setting, and your circle alert setting.

Your circle: the people you have connected with in HAAAA and who you share with (see “Who can see your information”).

Some older accounts, created with the previous version of HAAAA, may also hold details that app asked for, such as gender, country, place, year of birth and phone number. The current app doesn’t collect or use these. They are removed when you delete your account.

What stays on your phone

Some settings never leave your device: your chosen narrator, music, scene, session length and volume levels, and your app PIN if you set one. Scene images are saved on your phone so they load quickly. Your daily reminder is a notification scheduled on your phone; no server sends it.

What we don’t do

Why we use it

We use your information only to run HAAAA for you: to sign you in, keep your journal and history, show you your moods and streaks over time, share with your circle what you have chosen to share, and respond when you contact us.

Who can see your information

You. Your notes, feeling words, goals, gratitude, “I Am” statements, life checks and meditation history are visible only to you in the app.

Your circle. People you have connected with can see your name, your profile photo, your latest mood, your overall mood score, and a history of your moods by date (the mood only, not your notes or feeling words).

Our service providers. We use Google Firebase (a Google Cloud service) to store and process your information: Authentication for sign-in, Cloud Firestore for your data, Cloud Storage for profile photos, and Cloud Functions to run parts of the app. Firebase processes this data for us under Google’s data processing terms and doesn’t use it for its own purposes. Firebase also gives each installation of the app a random identifier and checks that requests come from the real app, which helps protect the service.

When the law requires it. We may disclose information if New Zealand law requires us to, or to protect someone’s safety.

Where your information is stored

Your information is stored on Google Cloud servers outside New Zealand. Cloud Functions run in Tokyo, Japan; your data is stored in Sydney, Australia. Google is bound by its data processing terms to protect it to a standard comparable to the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.

How we protect it

All traffic between the app and Firebase is encrypted. We use Firebase security rules to control who can read and change information.

How long we keep it

We keep your information while you have an account. When you delete your account, it is removed straight away (see below). Google’s system logs, which can include your account ID, are kept for a short period and then deleted automatically. We keep backup copies of our database to protect against loss; information you delete can remain in those backups until they are deleted in turn.

Deleting your account

In the app: Me → Delete my account → Delete everything. This permanently deletes your account, profile, photo, journal, “I Am” statements, life checks, meditation history and your circle, and removes you from other people’s circles. It can’t be undone.

If you can’t open the app, you can ask us to do it at haaaa.app/account-deletion. We respond within 30 days.

Anonymous totals that can’t identify you may remain. Settings saved on your phone stay there until you uninstall the app.

Your rights

Under the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020 you can ask to see the personal information we hold about you and ask us to correct it. Email help@haaaa.app from the address on your account and we will respond within 20 working days. You can change your name and photo yourself in the app at any time.

If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your information, please tell us first. You can also complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.

Children

HAAAA isn’t intended for children under 16 unless a parent or guardian has approved it, as our Terms say. We don’t knowingly collect information from children under 16 without that approval. When you create an account you confirm that you are 16 or older, or that a parent or guardian has approved. If you think a child has given us information without that approval, contact us and we will delete it.

Health and wellbeing

Your moods and journal entries are personal and can be sensitive. We treat them as such: they are used only to provide the app to you and aren’t shared beyond what’s described above. HAAAA isn’t a medical service. If you need support, in New Zealand you can call or text 1737 at any time.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top. If a change affects how your information is used, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect.
